Main Card Event Fights
Four fights will make up the main card for Bellator 233 but it’s Salter and Van Steenis that are the headliners. Salter (-150) has more experience than his opponent Van Steenis (+120) but Van Steenis has only one loss to his name. Both fighters are equally matched in build, standing at 6’1" and 185lbs each.
The second fight of the evening is Andrew Kapel against Muhammed Lawal in the 195-lb contract weight class. Lawal, known as King Mo Lawal is 21-8. He and Kapel are 6 ft. tall and 195lbs. Kapel is 14-6. This fight is supposed to serve as Lawal’s retirement fight and he wants to leave it all out on the mat. He is the favorite to win (-325) but Kapel (+250) is hungry having uprooted his family to chase his MMA dreams. This should prove to be a grudge match between the two as they both have something to prove.
Women enter the cage when Arlene Blencowe (+110) and Leslie Smith (-140) go head to head. Blencowe is 12-7 in her career. She has the most Bellator Featherweight fights in history with eight. She is also tied for the most knockout wins with fellow fighter Julia Budd at three in Bellator history. She is 5’5" and 145lbs. Leslie Smith is 11-7-1 as an MMA fighter. This will be her second appearance at Bellator, beating Sinead Kavanagh in April of this year. She is 5’9" and 145lbs.
To cap off the events will be a match between Azunna Anyanwu (+450) and Tyrell Fortune (-700) for the Heavyweight class. Anyanwu is 15-5 in his career, weighing in at 265lbs and standing at 6’1". Fortune is 6’2" and 249lbs with a record of 7-0. While Anyanwu has more experience, Fortune has yet to take a loss. This could be anyone’s fight.
The main event begins at 9 p.m. EST tonight at WinStar World Casino & Resort. It will be broadcast by the Paramount Network.
