- The Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots will face off in a simulated game on Madden NFL 20.
- The game will be played with updated rosters as of the end of the 2019-2020 season.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass.—With all sports still on hiatus due to the coronavirus, online sportsbooks are continuing to offer betting lines and odds on simulated NFL games. This time around, the Kansas City Chiefs will take on New England Patriots on "Sunday Night Football".
First and foremost, before getting into the odds, there are two things for sports bettors to keep in mind when betting on this virtual game. First of all, the game will be played with all updated rosters as of the end of the 2019-2020 season and the game will also feature light snowfall.
The Chiefs are currently favored to win over the Patriots as online sportsbooks have their odds listed at -150 while the Patriots odds are at +115. The spread also favors the Chiefs, as they are 3-point favorites.
The Over/Under for total scoring in the game is set at 61.5 points.
Betting on a simulated NFL game is not like betting on a regular NFL game. There are different factors to look at before bettors can place a bet here. For example, team ratings should be taken into consideration as well as the player ratings.
The Patriots lead the team ratings over the Chiefs across the board. With Tom Brady still on the roster, the Patriots offensive rating is at a 91 overall while the Chiefs are at an 88. The Patriots defensive rating sits at an 84 (Chiefs 78) and the overall rating for the Patriots is three points higher than the Chiefs at 87.
Player ratings should definitely be looked at as well. For example, Patrick Mahomes has a 99 overall rating which is the highest possible rating a player can get, while Tom Brady has a 91 overall. The highest-rated receiver on Kansas City is Tyreek Hill with a 96 overall versus the Patriots Julian Edelman who is just an 87.
Even though the Chiefs have higher rated players overall, the team ratings play more of a role as it is how the team plays together that will win the game.
Still, there are plenty of prop bets available for simulated and virtual Madden games. One such bet - which would be seen when betting on regular NFL games - asks who will score the first touchdown of the game.
While over a dozen options are present, the favorites are the ones that most bettors will be focused on.
First Touchdown Scorer
- Sony Michel (NE) +600
- Damien Williams (KC) +600
- Travis Kelce (KC) +650
- Tyreek Hill (KC) +650
- Julian Edelman (NE) +750
- Field +850
Keep in mind that this is only a shortlist of the favorites, as "the field" does not include players such as Sammy Watkins, James White, Philip Dorsett - whose odds are set at +900. Other players are also excluded from this list, as their odds extend all the way up to +7500 (Brady).
Though the virtual betting game is vastly different from the real-life NFL game, bettors should note that it was Edelman who scored the first touchdown in the Week 14 matchup between these teams in last year's regular season.
With other betting options including first quarter and first half lines and many other team and player props available, NFL betting has not been shorted during the offseason. Bettors can watch the game play out on Twitch which is slated to begin at 10 p.m. EST.
