Purdue, UConn Headline Week 11’s Best Longshot Underdogs

  • The Clemson Tigers are the largest point spread favorite for Week 11’s college football slate, laying 41 points to the Connecticut Huskies.
  • The Purdue Boilermakers will look to improve to 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 meetings with the Ohio State Buckeyes as 20-point underdogs this week.

CLEMSON, S.C. - The 2021 college football season has seen massive upsets nearly every week, leading many to seek out large point spread underdogs for this week’s betting slate.

The UConn Huskies and Purdue Boilermakers are the two best large favorites to back this week.

Connecticut Huskies Vs. Clemson Tigers Betting Odds

  • UConn +41 (-110)
  • Clemson -41 (-110)
  • Over 51 (-110)
  • Under 51 (-110)

The largest favorite for this week’s college football slate is surprisingly the 6-3 Clemson Tigers, who currently boast just a 2-7 record against the spread. Clemson currently sits as whopping 41 point favorites over the 1-8 Connecticut Huskies.

Clemson has been one of the most disappointing programs in the NCAA this season, limping out of the gate to a 2-2 record after being ranked within the top five of the preseason AP Top 25 Poll.

The Tigers struggled even worse against the spread to start the season, failing to cover in any of their first seven games.

Despite this, Clemson has righted the ship somewhat in the past two weeks, defeating two ACC opponents in Florida State and Louisville and covering the spread in both games.

UConn has struggled to win games outright in 2021, but they have fared much better against the spread (4-5). These four covers include their sole outright win over Yale as well as losses against Vanderbilt, Wyoming, and Army.

In their eight 2021 losses, Connecticut has given up 40 points or more just twice.

This is not to say that UConn has a very good chance of taking Clemson down this week - no moneyline is even being offered on most online sportsbooks - but that perhaps 41 points is far too many.

In their six 2021 wins, Clemson has averaged a 12-point margin of victory - this is including a 46-point rout over South Carolina State in Week 2. If you remove that outlier, the Tigers have averaged a 6-point margin of victory. 41 points is simply too many.

Purdue Boilermakers Vs. Ohio State Buckeyes Betting Odds

  • Purdue +20 (-110)
  • Ohio State -20 (-110)
  • Purdue +750
  • Ohio State -1400
  • Over 62 (-115)
  • Under 62 (-105)

Another large underdog with great value for this week’s college football slate are the Purdue Boilermakers, who are currently listed as 20-point underdogs against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Ohio State has been one of the best programs in the NCAA in recent history and 2021 has been no different, with the Buckeyes holding an 8-1 record outright. Despite their very impressive outright record, the Buckeyes have struggled against the spread, covering in just four of their nine games in 2021.

Purdue sits at a 6-3 (5-4 ATS) record in 2021, featuring wins over Oregon State, Iowa, Nebraska, and Michigan State.

The Boilermakers are currently riding a two-game win streak, with consecutive wins over Big 10 foes Nebraska and Michigan State. Three of their six wins came as point-spread underdogs, and two of those wins (Iowa and Michigan State) were over teams that were ranked within the top five in the country, showing that Purdue has proven the capability to rise to the level of their competition.

Purdue has a long history of playing spoiler against Ohio State as well.

In the last 11 meetings between the two teams, Purdue has covered the spread an impressive eight times. Look for the Boilermakers to rise to their competition this week and possibly throw the Big 10 into even further chaos with an outright win.
