Nebraska Could Add $32M in Revenue With Sportsbook Petition

  • Nebraska residents and casino operators have started a petition drive to propose a constitutional amendment on the 2026 general election ballot.
  • The proposal would legalize online and mobile sports betting across Nebraska.
  • The initiative was proposed by WarHorse Casino after Sen. Bostar proposed LR20CA earlier this year.

LINCOLN, Neb. – Sports bettors in Nebraska are petitioning for a constitutional amendment on the 2026 general election ballot, after online sports betting regulation failed earlier this year. The effort was proposed by WarHorse Casino, as Nebraska law permits in-person sports betting at licensed casinos only.

Supporters of Nebraska online sportsbooks estimate that regulation could bring in an additional $32 million in tax revenue annually. This revenue would fund the Nebraska Property Tax Relief Fund, as well as help gambling addiction services and community development.

Next Steps

To qualify for the 2026 ballot, petitioners must collect signatures from 10% of registered voters in Nebraska (around 125,000 signatures).
