Daily Sports Betting Preview 12/15/2020: Premier League, Cleveland Indians Name Change, PDC World Championship

  • Chelsea has -145 odds to defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers on the three way moneyline.
  • The new name of the Cleveland Indians might be the Cleveland Baseball Team at +400 odds.
  • There are three solid darts matches in the PDC World Championship today.

LAS VEGAS - Tuesday’s edition of the Daily Sports Betting Preview looks to be a very interesting one.

First, Chelsea hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

Then, the Cleveland Indians are changing their name, and there are betting odds on what the new name will be.

Finally, the PDC World Championship features three matches today, each of which is a solid betting opportunity.

There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started!

Premier League Betting

Chelsea is set to play host to Wolverhampton Wanderers in Premier League action, and the betting lines are compelling.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Chelsea

  • Wolves +425
  • Chelsea -145
  • Draw +275

On the three way moneyline, Chelsea is an odds on favorite in the matchup, while a Draw is the next most likely option.

The chances of a Wolves victory seem very remote, at +425.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Chelsea - No Draw

  • Wolves +275
  • Chelsea -400

The no-draw line accentuates the gap between the two teams, giving Chelsea -400 odds at an outright victory.

The question when choosing between these two bets is whether or not to take a greater risk on the three way moneyline.

Especially when wagering on Chelsea, the payout is significantly better on the three way moneyline due to the existence of a draw - there’s more risk involved, so they pay out better.

There’s one more little line shopping trick that can be done here, however.

Using alternate lines, one can also examine a spread of each team -0.5 in order to simulate taking them on the three way moneyline, and compare it to that team’s odds on the three way moneyline.

Chelsea -0.5 is set at -155, which means that taking the three way moneyline wager on Chelsea is preferable to taking Chelsea -0.5

Wolves -0.5 is set at +380, once again making the three way moneyline the preferable method of betting on a Wolves victory.

In both cases, the three way moneyline is preferable to betting on the alternate spreads provided by the online soccer sportsbooks.

Cleveland Baseball Team Names Odds

The Cleveland Indians are looking at changing their name, which, combined with their logo, has been sharply criticized as racist towards Native Americans.

The Washington Football Team changed their name this year, and Cleveland is looking to follow suit.

The process by which they will change the name is relatively unknown at this point - Washington opted to use a stand-in name for a season, and then work on a permanent replacement.

The sportsbooks have odds on what the new name will be - although baseball betting followers might have to wait a bit for a payout.

Cleveland Indians New Name if Changed

  • Spiders +200
  • Cleveland Baseball Team +400
  • Blue Sox +1000
  • Guardians +1000
  • Crows +1200
  • Naps +1200
  • Rocks +1200
  • Wild Things +1200

The two names at the top of the boards are the Cleveland Spiders and the Cleveland Baseball Team.

The Spiders name references the Cleveland Spiders, who played in the National League in the early days of baseball.

The Cleveland Baseball Team name is of - of course - a reference to the Washington Football Team. Those two names are the leaders right now, by a large amount, but there is always time for an underdog to make a push.

Some interesting underdogs include: the Cleveland Unions at +3300, the Cleveland Buckeyes at +2000, and the Cleveland Burning River at +5000.

Finally, because sports bettors are nothing if not degenerate, the Cleveland Steamers is on the board at +50000.

The fascinating aspect of these odds is that Cleveland Steamers is even on the board - which implies people are betting on it.

PDC World Championship Betting

There are three matches set to take place in the PDC World Championship today, and each is worth taking a look at.

Amit Gilitwala vs. Steve West

  • Amit Gilitwala +700
  • Steve West -1250

Steve West is the biggest favorite of the day in the PDC, and indeed the biggest favorite in this entire Preview at -1250 over Amit Gilitwala.

Amit Gilitwala vs. Steve West

  • Amit Gilitwala +2.5 (+145)
  • Steve West -2.5 (-175)

Even a massive +2.5 spread cannot save Gilitwala, as he is an underdog even there, fairly significantly.

This match airs at 1:05 p.m. EST.

Diogo Portela vs. Steve Beaton

  • Diogo Portela +185
  • Steve Beaton -340

Steve Beaton is a much more normal favorite over Diogo Portela in the next match on the card, with -340 moneyline odds.

Diogo Portela vs. Steve Beaton

  • Diogo Portela +1.5 (+130)
  • Steve Beaton -1.5 (-160)

Once again, however, a spread of +1.5 is not enough to swing the odds fully in favor of the underdog.

This match airs at 2:00 p.m. EST.

Barry Keane vs. Jeff Smith

  • Barry Keane +105
  • Jeff Smith -125

The final match of the day features Barry Keane taking on Jeff Smith in the most even matchup on the card. Keane and Smith are extremely evenly matched according to the moneyline, which has Smith as a slight favorite at -125.

The spread, as is generally done (although not always, judging by West vs. Gilitwala), is set at +/- 1.5.

However, it is Smith that receives the +1.5 in this case, perhaps indicating that the lines on this matchup have moved significantly since it was posted.

Barry Keane vs. Jeff Smith

  • Barry Keane -1.5 (+195)
  • Jeff Smith +1.5 (-245)

This makes Smith +1.5 a very solid bet. Effectively, one would be buying the spread here by moving from -125 to -245.

It’s pricey, but considering what is gained, a potentially worthwhile tradeoff for darts bettors wagering on this matchup. This matchup airs at 3:00 p.m. EST.

Happy Betting!
