LAS VEGAS - Welcome to this Tuesday edition of the Daily Sports Betting Preview!

Today’s Preview kicks off with a look at Texas Tech’s matchup against West Virginia in NCAA Basketball. Then, in the NHL, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Washington Capitals face off. Finally, in the NBA, the Houston Rockets take on the New Orleans Pelicans.

Even though football season has finished, betting on these other sports is in full stride.

NCAA Basketball Betting

Two elite teams are set to face off on this fine Tuesday as the Texas Tech Red Raiders battle the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Texas Tech is ranked seventh in the AP Poll, while West Virginia clocks in at 14th. With Texas Tech at home, they have a significant advantage in this matchup according to the sportsbooks.

West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders Spread

  • West Virginia +5.5 (-110)
  • Texas Tech -5.5 (-110)

Both teams have good records straight up, but neither of them are positive against the spread, with WVU boasting a 9-9 ATS record and TTU clocking in with a 7-12 ATS record.

This doesn’t change much when one looks at the home/road splits either.

West Virginia is 2-4 against the spread on the road, which is not good, but Texas Tech is 4-7 against the spread at home, which is also not good. In fact, in their last five games as road underdogs, the Mountaineers boast a 1-4 record against the spread.

However, the Red Raiders have a 2-10 record against the spread in their last 12 games as favorites. Basically, neither of these teams makes a compelling argument for them to cover the spread so bettors may want to look at some other odds.

West Virginia vs. Texas Tech Moneyline

  • West Virginia +200
  • Texas Tech -240

The moneyline could be a better option for those college basketball betting fans wishing to snag either some extra profit or some extra safety.

NHL Betting

Over in the NHL, two of the top teams in the East Division are set to face off as the Philadelphia Flyers battle the Washington Capitals.

The Flyers have a record of 8-3-1-1, while the Capitals clock in at a respectable 6-3-1-2. Both teams sit behind the Boston Bruins in the division, but both are reasonably within striking distance of the division lead.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Washington Capitals Moneyline

  • Philadelphia Flyers -120
  • Washington Capitals +100

The Flyers are mild road favorites at Washington in this matchup, and they’re about as mild as favorites can get. They have a 3-1-0-1 record on the road this season, which is quite respectable, while the Caps are 4-2-0-1 at home.

However, the puck line for this matchup is truly intriguing given how even the moneyline is on the major online sportsbooks.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Washington Capitals Puck Line

  • Philadelphia Flyers -1.5 (+195)
  • Washington Capitals +1.5 (-235)

Both of these teams have absolutely excelled on the puck line so far this season. Washington’s 8-4 record on the puck line is stellar, and Philadelphia just edges them at 9-4. The Flyers are 4-1 on the puck line when playing on the road, while the Caps are 5-2 on the puck line playing at home.

One aspect of this game that could be intriguing is the fact that the Capitals played on the seventh, giving them only one day of rest before this game.

The Caps are 6-13 in their last 20 games played on one day’s rest, which is one of the only negative trends associated with either team in this matchup.

NHL betting fans could use this to get an edge, or rely on all of the positive trends for the Caps.

NBA Betting

The Houston Rockets and the New Orleans Pelicans are both slumming it outside the playoffs in the Western Conference.

The Rockets are the 10 seed, having traded their best player to the Brooklyn Nets, and the Pelicans are the 12 seed, with only half a game separating the two. The Rockets have played one more game than the Pelicans, and they’ve won that game, putting them at 11-12 on the season while the Pels are 10-12.

However, on the road, the Rockets are underdogs to the Pelicans in this matchup.

Houston Rockets vs. New Orleans Pelicans Spread

  • Houston Rockets +5.5 (-110)
  • New Orleans Pelicans -5.5 (-110)

Neither team has compelling arguments for their spread at first glance, with the Rockets sitting at 10-13 ATS and the Pelicans at 10-12 ATS. However, the Rockets are positive against the spread on the road at 7-6, and the Pels are negative against the spread at home at 5-6.

In fact, the Rockets are 4-0 ATS in their last four games as road underdogs, while the Pelicans are 2-6 in their last eight games as favorites.

There’s just one problem for Rockets bettors in this matchup - the Rockets are on the second day of a back to back.

The team is 3-7 ATS in their last ten games on no rest, which makes a lot of sense given how the second day of a back to back tends to play out in the NBA.

NBA bettors have the option of playing the trends or playing the rest in this matchup.

Good luck!
