LAS VEGAS - Welcome to this Thursday edition of the Daily Sports Betting Preview!

First up on the Preview is a look at the matchup between Manchester United and AC Milan in the Europa League. Then, in the NBA, the Boston Celtics take on the Brooklyn Nets. Finally, in the NHL, the Philadelphia Flyers face off against the Washington Capitals.

There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started!

Europa League Betting

In the Europa League, Manchester United travel to face off against AC Milan, in the first leg of their cup tie.

Both teams currently occupy the second spot in their domestic leagues, with AC Milan trailing Juventus and Manchester United trailing Manchester City.

Manchester United vs. AC Milan Three Way Moneyline

  • Manchester United -165
  • AC Milan +500
  • Draw +295

It’s worth noting that Manchester United are far further behind Manchester City than Milan are behind Juventus, but that doesn’t seem to have shifted the odds away from the Manchester-based titans.

Manchester United vs. AC Milan - To Qualify

  • Manchester United -220
  • AC Milan +180

However, in terms of odds to win the overall cup tie and move on to the next round of the Europa League, they aren’t nearly as favored as one might expect.

Part of this is that the odds on qualification factor in that there are two games to play, whereas odds on this one game are just that.

Still, it’s an interesting situation for anyone who wishes to get ahead of the game and get money in on the two leg tie instead of the individual game.

Manchester United vs. AC Milan Spread

  • Manchester United -1.0 (+105)
  • AC Milan +1.0 (-125)

The spread for this matchup is set such that Manchester United enter with a one goal handicap.

This is roughly in line with how favored they are on the moneyline, but it’s worth noting that both of these teams have scored 50 or more goals in their domestic leagues this season - they’re both fairly explosive offenses.

Soccer betting enthusiasts have a lot to look for in this matchup, from the spread to the various moneylines, and each wager presents different betting opportunities.

NBA Betting

In the NBA, the Boston Celtics are looking to come out of the All-Star break strong after a weak first half of the season.

The Celtics are currently only two games above .500, and have generally underperformed this season. Their opponents, the Brooklyn Nets, are the NBA’s newest superteam, and just added Blake Griffin to a core of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden.

Boston Celtics vs. Brooklyn Nets Moneyline

  • Boston Celtics +125
  • Brooklyn Nets -145

When examining the odds for this matchup, the first thing to note is that Kevin Durant will be out with a hamstring injury, leaving Harden and Irving to do most of the work offensively.

In addition, new superteam member Blake Griffin could be unavailable for this game, as he is listed as Day-to-day on the Nets’ injury report due to injury management.

This gives the Celtics a better shot than one might expect, given the fact that they’ve only won seven of their 19 road games this season.

Boston Celtics vs. Brooklyn Nets Spread

  • Boston Celtics +3.0 (-115)
  • Brooklyn Nets -3.0 (-105)

The spread for this matchup is swinging in favor of the Celtics after opening at Brooklyn -3.5 on many of the online sportsbooks.

This is an intriguing movement, as the Celtics have a 6-13 record against the spread when playing on the road.

NBA betting fans have a choice between a relatively full-strength Celtics team and a banged up Nets squad.

Despite the injuries, however, it’s worth noting that the Nets are favored - even if only by a small amount, it speaks to their championship potential.

NHL Betting

The NHL’s East Division is full of solid teams, with five separate teams that have 13 wins or more taking up residence in the East.

The Capitals and the Flyers are two of those teams, and the matchup between them seems to be balanced on a knife’s edge.

Washington Capitals vs. Philadelphia Flyers Moneyline

  • Washington Capitals -115
  • Philadelphia Flyers -105

The visiting Capitals have a record of 15-6-2-2, and are currently just behind the New York Islanders for the division lead.

The Flyers have a record of 13-7-1-2, although at home that record improves a bit to 7-3-1-1.

This matchup has been hovering in the area of a pick ‘em for as long as it’s been up on the online sportsbooks.

Washington Capitals vs. Philadelphia Flyers Puck Line

  • Washington Capitals +1.5 (-260)
  • Philadelphia Flyers -1.5 (+215)

The puck line can attest to how the moneyline has been moving, as discerning NHL bettors will note that the Flyers have the handicap on the puck line, but are actually the underdogs on the moneyline.

This is because the direction of the puck line was set before the moneyline started moving, and thus, the underdog has the -1.5 handicap.

The Capitals boast a 14-11 record on the puck line, while the Flyers are 12-11.

This matchup, and the many others like it between these top five teams in the East, will likely end up playing a part in determining how the division shapes up by playoff time.

As such, it’s an important game for both of these teams, and for those wagering on them.
