  • Alexander Zverev has -1200 odds to defeat Laslo Djere.

LAS VEGAS - Welcome to this Wednesday edition of the Daily Sports Betting Preview!

First up on the Preview, MLB’s Spring Training pits the New York Yankees against the Toronto Blue Jays. Then, Wednesday brings another day of the Cheltenham Festival’s races for those who are fans of horse race betting.

Finally, at ATP Acapulco, Alexander Zverev battles against Laslo Djere.

There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started!

MLB Spring Training Betting

The Toronto Blue Jays have been in the midst of a youth movement for a few years now, and they’re looking to convert that into wins this season.

They added Astros star George Springer to the team, as well as Marcus Semien, and are generally looking to compete in 2021. Unfortunately for this potential team on the rise, they’re faced with the New York Yankees this Wednesday.

The Yankees are...well, they’re the Yankees. They spend big money, they bring in big names, and they have an incredible roster.

The Blue Jays actually opened nearly even with the Yankees on the odds boards, with odds around -110, but they’ve since moved to +120 odds as bettors throw money on the Yanks.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees Moneyline

  • New York Yankees -140
  • Toronto Blue Jays +120

The probable pitching matchup sees Jordan Montgomery of the Yankees facing off against Thomas Hatch of the Jays.

The major story of this matchup in terms of baseball betting, however, is that the two teams were almost evenly matched before the odds opened up to the market.

This could simply be an artifact of Spring Training, or it could be a preview of things to come for the Blue Jays.

If they’re the kind of team that a sportsbook thinks can go toe to toe with the Yankees, the fact that the public moved the lines shouldn’t scare people off.

The Blue Jays currently have +1800 odds to win the World Series, while the Yankees sit at +600, but most of the teams in between them play in the NL.

The Jays are the third most likely AL team to win the World Series, behind the Yankees and the Chicago White Sox. If they can handle the Yankees in the regular season, expect those odds to get shorter.

For now, however, the Blue Jays are still underdogs on the moneyline, at least after the betting public gets involved.

Cheltenham Festival Betting

The Cheltenham Festival features several races on Wednesday, but most attention will be on the Champion Bumper.

The Champion Bumper will be Wednesday’s final race, and feature some of the best horses in England going head to head. It is the pinnacle of National Hunt flat racing in Britain, and is run on a course that measures two miles and 87 yards.

Champion Bumper Odds

  • 6. Kilcruit +135
  • 9. Sir Gerhard +200
  • 10. Three Stripe Life +900
  • 7. Ramillies +1200
  • 12. Elle Est Belle +1800
  • 13. Grangee +2200
  • 1. Chemical Energy +3300
  • 14. I Like To Move It +3300
  • 11. Wonderwall +4000
  • 15. Super Six +4000
  • 2. Cool Jet +4000
  • 8. Shearer +5000
  • 4. Fine Casting +6600
  • 5. Jack's A Legend +10000
  • 3. Creggan White Hare +15000

The leader in terms of odds to win the Champion Bumper is Kilcruit, at +135 odds. These odds approach being an odds on favorite against the field.

It’s likely that without the presence of Sir Gerhard in the field, Kilcruit would be an odds on favorite. Sir Gerhard sits just behind Kilcruit at +200, while the next closest competitor to those two is Three Stripe Life at +900, and the odds get ever more steep from there.

Kilcruit is a stunning horse, and is being trained by Willie Mullins, as is Sir Gerhard, meaning that the two biggest threats to win the race come from the same trainer.

It’s hard to dodge the conclusion that one of these two horses is simply better than every other horse in the field, and any other winner would be a fairly shocking upset.

Mullins has trained six of the nine top three finishers in the Champion Bumper over the last three years.

Putting Kilcruit and Sir Gerhard in the top three this year would continue that ratio, bringing him to 8/12 over four years.

Given the odds, it seems likely that horse race betting fans will be looking at yet another excellent performance from Mullins’ stable.

ATP Acapulco Betting

ATP Acapulco continues on Wednesday, and the young stars of tennis continue to romp all over ATP events.

One of those young stars is Alexander Zverev, who is set to face off today against Laslo Djere.

Zverev is the seventh ranked player in the world, and at the age of 23, has been a major player in worldwide tennis for years now.

Laslo Djere, also fairly young at the age of 25, has never approached the heights that Zverev currently occupies. Djere is ranked 54th by the ATP, and peaked as high as 27, but that was in 2019, and he’s fallen since.

In 2021, Djere has a 3-5 record, while Zverev has a 5-4 record.

Alexander Zverev vs. Laslo Djere Moneyline

  • Alexander Zverev -1200
  • Laslo Djere +750

The moneyline sees Zverev as a notable favorite over Djere, with -1200 odds to win the match outright.

Djere is a fairly large underdog in the matchup, with +750 odds to take down Zverev.

Alexander Zverev vs. Laslo Djere Spread

  • Alexander Zverev -5.5 (-110)
  • Laslo Djere +5.5 (-120)

The combination of the spread and the moneyline is fairly intriguing, and bears some comparison to another matchup happening on Wednesday as Milos Raonic takes on Dominik Koepfer.

Milos Raonic vs. Dominik Koepfer Moneyline

  • Milos Raonic -800
  • Dominik Koepfer +550

Milos Raonic vs. Dominik Koepfer Spread

  • Milos Raonic -5.0 (+100)
  • Dominik Koepfer +5.0 (-130)

Note that the matchup between Raonic and Koepfer is fairly similar to the matchup between Zverev and Djere on the spread, with only half a game and some shading separating the two spreads.

However, on the moneyline, Raonic is -800 where Zverev is -1200, and Koepfer is +550 where Djere is +750.

This could demonstrate just how confident the online sportsbooks are in the idea that Zverev will win the matchup outright.

However, it seems as though this confidence does not extend to the spread, and tennis betting fans should take note.

Good luck!
