LAS VEGAS - Welcome to the Daily Sports Betting Preview on this fine Monday!

First up on the Preview, the Boston Bruins face off against the Washington Capitals in the first round of the NHL Playoffs.

Then, the Cleveland Indians take on the Los Angeles Angels in a late night MLB game.

Finally, Virtus.pro faces off against Trident Esports in the Epic CIS League 2021.

There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started!

Hockey Betting

The Boston Bruins and the Washington Capitals have already played one game in their first round playoff series.

The Capitals took the victory in that game, but they’re mild home underdogs in game two of the series.

Boston Bruins vs. Washington Capitals Moneyline

  • Boston Bruins -135
  • Washington Capitals +115

Despite being slight underdogs in game two of the series, the Capitals’ single game victory has positioned them well for the rest of the playoffs.

East Division Playoff Winner

  • Boston Bruins +255
  • New York Islanders +350
  • Pittsburgh Penguins +265
  • Washington Capitals +185

The Caps are the favorite to make it out of the East Division at the moment, and with how even their series against the Bruins is expected to be, a lot of that favoritism is likely due to their win in Game 1.

They’re the only team under +200 odds to win the East Division, with the Bruins, the Islanders and the Penguins all over +250 odds.

Still, NHL bettors should consider the Bruins in this context, especially if they can pull even with the Capitals in Game 2.

The Bruins are favorites to win Game 2 against the Caps, but they have far lower futures odds in terms of winning the East Division.

This could be something worth wagering on, especially during the game if it looks like the Bruins are doing well.

This matchup kicks off at 7:30 p.m. EST, and will be broadcast on NBCSN, SportsNet and CBC.

MLB Betting

The Cleveland Indians are in second place in the AL Central, behind the dominant Chicago White Sox.

The Indians are 21-17, a respectable record, but not one that puts them in the elite of the American League.

Their opponents today are the Los Angeles Angels, a team with an immense amount of talent, but a general inability to put it all together.

The Angels are in fourth place in the AL West with a record of 17-22, despite the fact that they have Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon and Shohei Ohtani on their roster.

The odds in this matchup, however, are slanted towards the Angels, in a reversal of what would be expected if the oddsmakers were handicapping purely based on record.

Cleveland Indians vs. Los Angeles Angels

  • Cleveland Indians +120
  • Los Angeles Angels -140

The Angels are -140 home favorites with Patrick Sandoval heading to the mound. Sandoval has yet to start a game this year for the Angels.

In previous years, Sandoval has been a roughly average pitcher, and this year, he seems to be somewhere in that range as well.

He has a career WHIP of 1.368, although so far this year his WHIP is 1.500.

It seems as though the online sportsbooks expect the Angels to perform a bit better than they have so far this season.

This expected upwards regression could be part of why they are favored over a team that has a better record than they do.

MLB betting fans could take the underdog odds on the Indians, and sit happy knowing they have good odds on the team with the better record.

Alternatively, they could consider that the sportsbooks could be correct about the Angels - they do have a ton of talent on the roster.

This matchup airs at 9:38 p.m. EST on MLB.TV and MLB Extra Innings.

Esports Betting

However one defines elite in CS:GO, Virtus.Pro has that distinction relative to nearly any other team in the world.

Right now, they’re ranked seventh overall by the HLTV rankings, and fifth overall in the ESL rankings.

Today, they face off against Trident Esports, a team that does not appear on either rankings list.

The HLTV rankings end at 30, and the ESL rankings end at 100, so the fact that they are not on either list should give some context to the matchup.

Trident Esports vs. Virtus.pro

  • Trident Esports +625
  • Virtus.pro -1200

Virtus.pro is an enormous favorite in this matchup, and it’s very hard to argue against anyone who would want to bet on them anyway.

Upsets of this magnitude simply do not happen very often, and it would be very shocking for Trident to come away with a win here.

Virtus.pro has steadily improved over the last few months, climbing from being ranked 18th by ESL in November to where they are now, fifth.

They’ve been as high as third in the ESL rankings during that timeframe, and teams like that just do not lose to teams like Trident.

Esports betting fans can wager on this matchup at the online sportsbooks, and it airs at 1:00 p.m. EST on Twitch.tv.

Good luck!
