In the original movie, it seems as though Godzilla was portrayed as a villain, as this was before his turn to being a protector of Japan in later films.

Kong, meanwhile, was sympathetic, and does seem to have been adjudicated the winner of the first matchup between these two beasts in 1962. However, the method by which Kong defeated Godzilla in the original movies was by getting a power up from a bolt of lightning.

In that canon, King Kong had lightning related powers, which he does not in the currently running canon set up by Kong: Skull Island.

When examining the two of them, it’s hard to avoid the conclusion that one is a gigantic, nuclear powered lizard, while the other is a big monkey.

We’ll see how the movie ends up, but for now, entertainment betting fans can place their bets on whether or not the underdog, King Kong, can take down Godzilla.
