Jets Favored By 1.5 Over Giants In NFL’s Week 1 Snoopy Bowl

  • Eli Manning and Sam Darnold will not be playing.
  • The NY Jets are favored over the NY Giants by 1.5 points.
  • The Jets hold the all-time advantage over the Giants by 1 win.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The NFL is giving New York Giants and New York Jets fans less of a wait before the Snoopy Bowl begins.

These two teams play every year during the preseason, generally around week 3. However, as they will play in week 10 during the regular season, both coaches did not want to show too much of their game plan and matchups, for the later weeks of preseason consist of more starters playing.

“This is more about the players and less about the scheme, said Giants coach Pat Shurmur. “It’s going to be less about matchups and more about execution from that standpoint.”

Instead, the focus turns to the first game for the clubs, which begins at 7 PM EST on Thursday. Taking place in the shared MetLife Stadium, the Giants will be considered the home team for the 51st meeting between these teams. The Jets hold the preseason advantage, going 25-24-1 all time.

“There are some healthy guys that have been practicing that you may not see Thursday,” said Shurmur.

Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones will get the start in place of Eli Manning, who will be absent from the first game. Sterling Shepard will also be out for the contest due to a recovering broken thumb.

But the preseason isn’t the time to focus on the veterans. This time is for the young players with something to prove or those who have been shipped around the league unable to find a permanent home.

“I’ve never been to an NFL football game, so the first one I’m able to be at, I’m going to be playing in, so that’s kind of exciting,” said Giants rookie defensive tackle, Dexter Lawrence.

Betting Odds On The Jets vs Giants

The Jets (-125) are favored over the Giants (+105) by 1.5 points in the MetLife Bowl at USA online sportsbooks, which has moved a half-point in favor of the G-Men. However, the public is giving the Jets the advantage, as nearly two-thirds of all action on this line is looking to push it back to 2 points.

A total of 33 points has been set as the over/under, down from the 34.5 it opened with.

With many starters expected to sit, the game may not be the most action-packed or highest-scoring affair. However, bettors in New York will be taking advantage of the Meadowlands’ grounds, which feature both the FanDuel Sportsbook as well as MetLife Stadium.

For those not planning on making it to the venue, viewing options can be found elsewhere. The game will be broadcasted on WNBC and the NFL Network, as well as available for stream on fuboTV and NFL Network.
