TRENTON, N.J. – The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) will not allow wagers on Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.

This year will mark the 103rd Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. The contest is recognized by Major League Eating (MLE). It is also sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE). By these standards, Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is a sport.

But the NJ Division of Gaming Enforcement does not see it that way. Sportsbooks in New Jersey made requests to the DGE to allow them to post odds on the eating contest. Unfortunately, the DGE denied the request.

The DGE decides whether or not a contest can be wagered on in New Jersey. Earlier this year, the DGE did allow sportsbooks to accept bets on the Oscars. In the end, New Jersey residents will have to go online to bet on the hot dog eating contest.
