NBA Scoring Title Odds Heat Up As Kevin Durant Enters The Race

  • LeBron James has -150 odds to win the NBA scoring title.
  • Kevin Durant has jumped up to +450 odds to win the scoring title.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. –The race for the NBA scoring title continues to heat up. Many were expecting it to come down to a three-man race between LeBron James, Joel Embiid, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, Kevin Durant has now entered the race.

As the odds currently sit, online sportsbooks have LeBron James listed as the favorite as he is averaging the most points of the four players at 30.3 ppg this season.

2021-22 NBA Scoring Title Odds

  • LeBron James -150
  • Joel Embiid +300
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo +350
  • Kevin Durant +450

Although James is the favorite, his odds could be in trouble as the Los Angeles Lakers playoff hopes are coming down meaning that James could be sitting out of the last few games for LA.

James has also been dealing with an ankle injury recently which has kept him out of some games. With the Lakers likely out of the postseason, it would not make sense for James to play and risk reaggravating his injury. That said, his points per game average could stay the same if he doesn’t suit up.

Embiid and Antetokounmpo sit behind James as their scoring averages are not far off. Embiid is putting up 30.2 ppg while Giannis is going for 30.1. Embiid could come close to stealing the title from LeBron as he continues to play in the 76ers' last games of the season, however, Giannis has been rested already in a few games which could affect his odds of winning.

Kevin Durant Has Entered The Chat

There is no doubt that Kevin Durant, is one of, if not the best pure scorer in today's NBA. With that, his scoring average has risen to tie Giannis for the third-highest average this season at 30.1 ppg. Durant has made his case for the scoring title since the start of 2022 as he averaged 33.1 ppg in January, 27.1 ppg in February, 30.6 ppg in March, and opened up April with a 55-point game.

Durant’s situation is different than that of James, Embiid, and Giannis, as the Brooklyn Nets are currently in tenth place in the Eastern Conference and headed towards a play-in game before the playoffs begin. Meaning that he must keep his hot streak going to put the Nets in the best possible play-in game scenario.

If there was ever a time to take a risk on longer NBA odds, it should be Kevin Durant’s considering his team's situation right now and the fact that he is the hottest player in the league.
