NBA Series Odds Preview: Portland Trailblazers Vs. Denver Nuggets

  • The Portland Trailblazers have -115 odds to win the series over the Denver Nuggets.
  • The Denver Nuggets are favored to take Game 1 with -115 odds.

DENVER—The first round of the NBA Playoffs are officially here and there is already an explosive matchup set in the Western Conference between the Portland Trailblazers and the Denver Nuggets.

Online sportsbooks offer both series price odds as well as game-by-game odds for this series as well. Currently, oddsmakers have the Trailblazers favored to win the series but the Nuggets favored in Game 1.

Portland Trailblazers Vs. Denver Nuggets Series Price

  • Trailblazers -115
  • Nuggets -105

Bettors should not be mistaken here with the Trailblazers favored as this is expected to be one of the closer series in all of the first-round matchups. Looking at how they stacked up against one another in the regular season, the Nuggets took the season series 2-1, however, two of those games saw a five-point margin or less.

Something else that is worth noting here is that these two are also no strangers to each other in the playoffs. Just two seasons ago in the 2018-2019 playoffs, the two met in the Western Conference Semifinals in which the series went the full seven games with Portland coming out on top.

Not much has changed since that series as the Blazers are still led by Damian Lillard while Denver still has Nikola Jokic at the head. However, there is one key injury that the Nuggets are currently facing which could be the difference-maker. They are headed into the series without their star point guard Jamal Murray who suffered a torn ACL earlier in the season.

Looking at how they stack up against each other this season, the Nuggets have the number 11 ranked defense in the league and number 6 ranked offense. This should worry Blazers bettors as they, in fact, have the second-worst defensive rating in the league.

All in all, this is set to be a close series in which many can flirt with the Portland Trailblazers side of the line.

Game 1 Betting Breakdown

Denver Nuggets Vs. Portland Trailblazers Betting Odds

  • Moneyline: Nuggets (-115) vs. Blazers (-105)
  • Spread: Nuggets -1
  • Total: 227

The Nuggets NBA odds are slightly favored going into the game being that they did finish with a better record than the Blazers, but it remains a cutthroat matchup.

Although Denver will be without Murray going into the game, they did win one of their regular-season games over Portland without him. With that said, the Nuggets could potentially steal Game 1 if their defense holds up, if not, Portland should be able to walk away with it.

As for the spread, Portland has dominated on the spread all throughout the regular season against Denver as they covered the spread in all three games. That alone could have bettors leaning their way as well as their 38-34 record against the spread. With that, bettors can take the Blazers to cover.

The Over for the point total should be a given in this Game 1 matchup. Both teams have an above .500 record with the Nuggets going 39-33 with the Over and the Trailblazers going 38-34. The Over has hit in two of their three regular-season games as well.

The series is set to tip-off on Saturday, May 22 at 10:30 p.m. EST and will be broadcasted on ESPN.
