Shi is fresh off of winning her third consecutive World Championship in the 3m springboard at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships held in South Korea.
Her first title was a decade ago at the 2011 World Aquatics Championships where she won gold in the 3m springboard. She was the first Chinese diver from the provincial team to participate in the World Championships.
