Rivers Schenectady Announces Plans To Launch Sportsbook

  • Multiple betting options include 6 betting windows and 16 self-service kiosks.
  • The lounge will be over 5,000 square feet next to Van Slyck’s entertainment lounge.
  • Rivers will be ready to go mobile, should legislators approve the outstanding measure.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Sports betting is coming to New York and the upstate commercial casinos are getting ready to offer their services.

Announced this week, the betting lounge in Schenectady at Rivers Casino & Resort will be named “Rivers Sportsbook”.

The buildout will occur just off of the main gaming floor, next to Van Slyck’s entertainment lounge. With NY sports betting regulations set to be approved this month, the casino is hoping to have the sportsbook open in the summertime, or at worst before the NFL season kicks off.

“We couldn’t be happier to start construction on our new sportsbook and we’re looking forward to opening one of the first licensed sportsbooks in the state of New York,” said Justin Moore, River’s Casino acting GM.

The lounge will consist of over 5,000 square feet of luxury, as club chair seating will be provided for 80 guests. There will also be an overflow area, which can hold almost 500 people.

Additionally, the lounge will have 5 private booths – each with their own TV monitor. An extra 32 high-top seats will be available as well as 18 VIP seats about the area.

The private booths won’t be the only ones able to watch sporting events from around the world, as bettors can look up to a 9-foot-high and 53-foot-long LED video wall. With an additional 22 TVs measuring 86 inches each, there will be no shortage of games being played.

Betting will be made easy as 6 betting windows will be accessible for those who wish to wager with a cashier. For those getting straight to the point or without any questions, they will be able to utilize the 16 self-service kiosks.

However, USAOnlineSportsbooks.com feels the expansion into mobile betting will be the focus of Rivers Casino, as revenue projections have fallen short in the casino’s first two years of operation.

“If the day ever comes, we’ll be prepared and we know we have a great partner to help us with it,” said Moore. “My experience from Las Vegas is we always saw about 65 percent of our handle from mobile.”

Supplied by Rush Street Gaming, Rivers will be able to join the likes of their sister casinos in SugarHouse and Rivers located in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, respectively. Though Pennsylvania mobile sports betting has yet to launch, the betting platform will be ready to go, already established as a skin at Monmouth Park in the New Jersey market.

Rivers Casino in Schenectady will also be able to create additional revenue from sports bettors who like to bet on the ponies.

“It’s really exciting,” said Moore. “It makes us a true Race and Sports book, the only one in New York.”

Even though Moore hasn’t gained the official title of GM for the casino, his ideas and plans brought from his previous experiences will only benefit Rivers. His knowledge and drive will ensure Rivers is on top of its game.

Without any worry, Moore said, “It’s going to be one of the prime destinations in the Capital Region.”
