Seahawks’ Super Bowl Odds Shorten After OT Win Over the 49ers

  • The Seattle Seahawks defeated the San Francisco 49ers on a last-second field goal in overtime on Monday night.
  • Odds to win the Super Bowl for the Seahawks, along with odds to win the NFC West and NFC Championship have all shortened when compared to last week.
  • The Seahawks' strength of schedule will play a factor in their Super Bowl odds as they have to play against the Rams and 49ers again, along with the Eagles and Vikings.

SEATTLE - The Seattle Seahawks have established themselves as legitimate Super Bowl contenders in the eyes of NFL fans after their narrow overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Monday. Sportsbooks have taken notice too, which is why the Seahawks' odds to win Super Bowl 54 have shortened.

According to the USA online sportsbook, Bovada, Seahawks odds have shortened across the board. Last week, Seattle’s odds to win the NFC West were at +350, their odds to win the NFC Championship were at +1200, and their odds to win the Super Bowl were at +2000.

This week, each of those odds has shifted. The Seahawks are now at +225 to win the NFC West, +750 to win the NFC Championship, and +1400 to win Super Bowl 54.

Seattle will be entering their bye week this Sunday with an 8-2 overall record, tied for second-best in the league with the Green Bay Packers. Much of their success has to do with the outstanding play of quarterback Russel Wilson.

According to Pro Football Reference, this season Wilson has passed for 2,737 yards, 23 touchdowns, and only two interceptions. His running game has also played a factor in the team’s success including an 18-yard run in overtime against the 49ers that help set up kicker Jason Myer’s game-winning field goal.

“He’s one of those guys that when you’re rushing you’ve got to keep an eye on him,” said San Francisco 49ers Defensive tackle DeForest Buckner after the game. “If he doesn’t have a guy open, he’s looking to create a play and looking for some rush lanes to open, and he got us a couple times.”

However, the Seahawks futures are sure to change more in the coming weeks. Seattle will come back form their bye week on November 24 to play in a prime-time game against the Philadelphia Eagles on the road.

The following week they will have to play another 8 o’clock matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Tough divisional rematches also lay ahead including games against the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers to end the season.

Still, those looking to get a head start on legal Super Bowl betting for 2020 may want to seriously consider putting Seattle on their card. There are currently five teams with shorter odds than Seattle to win the Super Bowl. Given how the team has performed so far, that may not be the case by season’s end.
