UFC 269 Early Odds Indicate New Lightweight Champion

  • Dustin Poirier is a -165 favorite in the main event against Charles Oliveira.
  • Amanda Nunes has a -850 betting line to retain her title against Julianna Pena.

LAS VEGAS – T-Mobile Arena will host yet another UFC event on Saturday, this time with two world championships belts on the line.

Dustin Poirier Vs. Charles Oliveira: Lightweight Championship Fight

The main event of UFC 269 is for the lightweight championship and Dustin Poirier will be looking to dethrone the current champion, Charles Oliveira. Although the odds on online sportsbooks favor Poirier, he may not be as big of a lock as many people assume.

Poirier vs Oliveira Moneyline Odds

  • Dustin Poirier -165
  • Charles Oliveira +135

Poirier is the bigger star because he beat Conor McGregor twice but is it possible McGregor isn’t a good win anymore?

Poirier’s resume as a whole has some questions to it when looking at it. Besides McGregor, he beat Dan Hooker who has now lost three of his last four and Max Holloway, a man who fights in a lighter division.

Importantly, his last loss is to Khabib Nurmagomedov, no shame in that, but his resume may not live up to the hype he’s received.

Oliveira holds the UFC record for most submissions and most finishes and has won nine straight fights heading into UFC 269. “Do Bronx” clearly has the advantage on the mat and he gets the fight there pretty often as he averages 2.64 takedowns per 15 minutes.

The fight should be closer to a pick ‘em, leaving value on Oliveira.

Amanda Nunes Vs. Julianna Pena: Women’s Bantamweight Title Fight

There’s not much to say about this fight. It’s the unanimously considered greatest women’s fighter of all time, Amanda Nunes, against just another opponent, Julianna Pena.

Nunes has won 12 straight fights and beaten people like Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, Cris Cyborg, Valentina Schevchenko (twice) and Miesha Tate. Given what she’s done, UFC betting sites may actually be leaving too much value on the table.

Nunes vs Pena Moneyline Odds

  • Amanda Nunes -850
  • Julianna Pena +525

For everybody that she’s fought, this is one of the biggest favorites she’s ever been, showing just how lopsided this matchup is. The UFC is running out of competitors in Nunes’ divisions and Pena is just the next name that was drawn out of the hat.

Pena has a 23% takedown defense which does not bode well against the woman known for doing whatever she wants to her opponents in the octagon.

The main card is expected to start at 10 p.m. EST and can be seen on PPV bought through ESPN+.
