Will Russell Wilson Be On The Move Next Season? Odds Say No

  • Russell Wilson is favored to stay with the Seattle Seahawks with -1100 odds.
  • Russell Wilson has +700 odds of moving to the Las Vegas Raiders.
  • The Dallas Cowboys have +1500 odds to get Russell Wilson.

SEATTLE, Wa. — With the 2020-2021 NFL season now in the rear-view mirror, the focus should be shifting to the offseason as it is shaping out to be a noisy one. The main storyline right now is how Russell Wilson has expressed discomfort with the Seattle Seahawks.

Wilson’s discomfort comes with the lack of protection that Seattle is able to offer him. Seattle is tied for the second-most sacks allowed per game this season as they allow 3.1 sacks per game. With that said, online sportsbooks have taken that into consideration and have odds on where Wilson could end up next season.

Where Will Russell Wilson Play Game 1 Of The 2021 Regular Season?

  • Seattle Seahawks -1100
  • Las Vegas Raiders +700
  • Dallas Cowboys +1500
  • Jacksonville Jaguars +1600
  • Washington Football Team +1800
  • San Francisco 49ers +2000
  • Denver Broncos +2200

Sitting at the top of the odds board are the Seattle Seahawks and rightfully so. Wilson is currently in the middle of a 4-year $140 million contract which won't end until 2023. Being that Wilson is under such a major contract, his departure would have to be done via a trade which could be hard to do considering the amount of money he’s making.

However, bettors should not be so quick to jump on Seattle’s NFL odds as there have been rumors that both sides are unhappy with each other right now being that Wilson made this a public issue.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders follow the Seattle Seahawks on the odds board and that could have to do with the relationship between Russell Wilson and John Gruden. The two have great respect for each other since Gruden was doing QB Specials for ESPN back when Wilson was getting drafted. Also, Gruden is a true quarterback coach and ironically enough, very opposite from the Seahawks coach, Pete Carrol. Gruden is more of a pass-first rather than a run-first coach.

As for how Wilson would get to Vegas, the Raiders would need to put together a package of Derek Carr and draft picks which doesn’t seem unlikely if they were to land a player of Wilson’s caliber. Knowing that, the Raiders' odds could be taken confidently.

Dallas Cowboys

Following the Raiders are the Dallas Cowboys. Many might see the Dallas Cowboys as a bit of a surprise to land Wilson but it is not entirely out of the question. Dallas is in a bit of a quarterback situation themselves as they have yet to extend the contract of Dak Prescott who has been actively seeking a contract. Now, being that Prescott was injured for most of last season, Dallas could look to wait even more before extending him.

With that being said, both the Seahawks and the Cowboys could come to terms on a quarterback swap of Dak Prescott for Russell Wilson.

Line Shopping Russell Wilson’s Odds

When looking to lay action on these odds, bettors will find them on both Bovada, which are listed above, and BetOnline.

The difference between the two odds is that Bovada has the odds for where Wilson will play next season while BetOnline just has his next team in general which doesn’t have to be next season. That alone would give bettors a better chance of hitting their bets.

However, if bettors are sure that Wilson could land in Las Vegas or Dallas, taking those odds on Bovada would actually turn out more profitable as they are much longer.
