2021 Turkish Grand Prix Betting Odds: Verstappen Favored

  • Max Verstappen is the -140 betting favorite to win the 2021 Turkish Grand Prix.
  • Lewis Hamilton has +150 odds to defend his title in Istanbul.
  • Lando Norris, who is at +2500 could be worth a bet as a potential longshot winner.

ISTANBUL – The Turkish Grand Prix is set to take place on Sunday in response to the Singapore Grand Prix being canceled. Although Lewis Hamilton is the defending champion, Max Verstappen is favored to win the race.

Lewis Hamilton Or Max Verstappen This Weekend?

The Formula 1 world has been dominated by Lewis Hamilton for about a decade, however, Max Verstappen has been closing ground and seems to have finally overtaken Hamilton as the best driver in the field. Online betting sites have Verstappen labeled as the favorite to win the Turkish Grand Prix for the first time in his career.

Turkish Grand Prix

  • Max Verstappen -165
  • Lewis Hamilton +300
  • Valtteri Bottas +550
  • Lando Norris +2000
  • Charles Leclerc +2000
  • Sergio Perez +3300
  • Carlos Sainz Jr +5000

The event made its return to the F1 calendar last season for the first time since 2011 and Hamilton won by a convincing 31.633 seconds. Hamilton is coming off of a win in Sochi in the last event, but Verstappen is also racing well as he finished second after starting 20th on the grid.

Both drivers will be fighting for the lead in the F1 drivers’ standings as they’re separated by just two points. The odds are likely to see some movement after the starting grid is settled post-qualifying, but as it stands, both Verstappen and Hamilton have value.

One of the two has won 12 of the 15 races this season with Verstappen holding a narrow 7-5 advantage, 6-5 if not including the one-lap Belgian Grand Prix. It should be noted that Lewis Hamilton was given a 10-spot starting grid penalty for making changes to his power unit, but as we saw last week with Verstappen, that doesn't put him out of contention.

Can Lando Norris Keep Up The Strong Performances?

Lando Norris has been debatably the best driver on the track for the last two races. He finished second, behind his teammate, in the Italian Grand Prix and if it weren’t for some late rain, he would’ve won the Russian Grand Prix the last time out. Sports betting sites are giving him long odds to keep up with his recent performances at +2000.

The list of people who can beat Verstappen and Hamilton is small, very small actually. Given the last two events, Norris is at the top of that list but still has the fifth-shortest odds. If anyone is going to bet against the favorites, he’s likely the man with the best chance.

The race will begin at 8:00 a.m. EST on Sunday morning and will air on ESPN.
