Betting The SEC Basketball Tourney? Be Sure To Hedge These Futures

  • Five teams are favored to win the SEC Tournament with odds below +800 but Kentucky leads the pack at +210.
  • Projected to finish 5th and 6th in the SEC preseason poll, Tennessee and Arkansas have odds of +2200 to win the tournament.
  • With Georgia having Anthony Edwards on their roster, their odds of +10000 may be a value play to hedge down the road.
  • Alabama leads the league in scoring from their impressive three-point shooting, as oddsmakers have the Tide at +2500.

NASHVILLE – With the college basketball conference tournaments happening this week, the SEC tournament odds are becoming a focal point for college basketball bettors.

Taking place in Bridgestone Arena, the tournament will feature a first and second round on Wednesday and Thursday, the quarterfinals on Friday, the semifinals on Saturday and the SEC Championship game on Sunday.

While the first bout of games will be broadcasted on the SEC Network, weekend games (plus two of the quarterfinals) will be played on ESPN.

The Kentucky Wildcats, Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers, and Mississippi State Bulldogs are the four college basketball teams that were given a double-bye in the tournament. To no surprise, the betting odds for the SEC Tournament followed suit, having these teams represent four of the five favorites.

SEC Tournament Winner

  • Kentucky +210
  • Auburn +325
  • Florida +550
  • LSU +500
  • Mississippi State +800

Down the line is every other SEC team, which none come in above odds of +1800 (Arkansas), despite them being the #11 seed needing to play every day of the tournament.

The other three bottom feeders (#12 Ole Miss Rebels, #13 Georgia Bulldogs, and #14 Vanderbilt Commodores) come with odds above +7500 – but Georgia may be a surprise play, simply because their odds on Bovada extend as high as +10000.

While they may not make an automatic bid to the March Madness NCAA Tournament, they could snap off a few wins, causing bettors to have an advantage of hedging later on in the tournament.

If a college basketball bettor wants to avoid one of the favorites in the SEC Tournament, they may also look to jump on the Alabama bandwagon. Averaging 83 points per game over their last nine and leading the league in scoring, the Crimson Tide (+2500) can outscore any team but may have issues stopping high-powered offenses.

However, if they can hit their 3-pointers to fall – of which they shoot 31 per game – it may be difficult for any team to matchup. Either way, whatever one decides to bet on the conference tournament, just know it is Kentucky’s tournament to lose.
