Bradley Beal, Russell Westbrook Both Favored To Stay In Washington

  • The Washington Wizards are the -650 to keep Bradley Beal on the roster for next season as the Golden State Warriors are +800 with the next shortest odds.
  • Russell Westbrook has -3500 odds to remain with the Wizards as the Celtics, Clippers and Heat all have equal odds to acquire him.

WASHINGTON – The Washington Wizards’ star players are both projected to remain with the franchise as Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook’s odds heavily favor no trade before the next season starts.

Whether it’s because of the salary cap situation or because Washington believes they’re building a championship contender, Wizards fans can expect their stars back for another season.

Bradley Beal is coming off of the best season of his career. He scored a career-high 31.3 points per game on a career-best 48.5% shooting. Only Stephen Curry averaged more points per game this season.

Beal has one more year remaining on his contract before potentially activating his player option. This means if he were to leave Washington it would be by way of buyout or trade, both unlikely according to the odds, which sit at -650 for him to stay.

Where Will Bradley Beal Play Game 1 Betting Odds

  • Washington Wizards -650
  • Golden State Warriors +800
  • Philadelphia 76ers +800
  • New Orleans Pelicans +850
  • Miami Heat +950
  • Dallas Mavericks +1600
  • New York Knicks +1600

Beal has a hefty contract attached to him with a salary of over $34.5 million for the 2021-2022 season, meaning a team would likely have to give up a player with a similar salary to make things work out on the business end. Online sportsbooks list the Warriors (+800) as the most likely team.

The Warriors have Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins on contracts that could work in a trade for Beal. Thompson is coming off of multiple injuries and Wiggins just doesn’t have the talent to garner a $30+ million contract.

Whether the teams would be willing to do either of these deals is yet to be seen, but they’re the most likely trade destination due to salary complications.

Philadelphia 76ers (+800)

Listed as NBA co-favorites to be the landing spot for Beal in a trade, the 76ers also have players that could make a trade work. Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons have contracts that would work, but are thought to be untouchable in trades. Tobias Harris on the other hand, would make sense on Philly’s side.

Harris is set to make $36 million next season and would likely need to be paired with a draft pick or two for Washington to entertain a trade, but could be done nonetheless.

Russell Westbrook's Odds To Stay

Westbrook is a much harder contract to move as he is set to make $44 million next season and has a player option for $47 million the following year. There’s only a handful of players in the league that have a similar salary and even fewer teams with the cap space to make a trade possible.

Where Will Russell Westbrook Play Game 1 Betting Odds

  • Washington Wizards -3500
  • Boston Celtics +800
  • Los Angeles Clippers +800
  • Miami Heat +800

The Celtics could potentially trade Kemba Walker and Tristan Thompson who would combine to match Westbrook’s salary, but it’s tough to see the Celtics even wanting Westbrook. Quite frankly, it’s tough to see any team listed on sports betting sites being willing to accept Westbrook’s contract.

Westbrook’s odds to stay with Washington are set at -3500 for a reason, it’s a safe assumption to say he’ll be in a Wizards uniform to start the 2021-2022 campaign.
