Atalanta Analysis

Atalanta has been one of the best stories of the tournament after getting the invite from their third-place finish in Serie A.

Unfortunately for soccer bettors rooting for the upset, Atalanta will be without their top scorer Josip Ilicic, who is missing the event due to personal, non-COVID related reasons.

This will leave the scoring duties to forwards Duvan Zapata and Luis Muriel, who have been effective so far in the competition.

The club was able to advance to this stage after a dominant performance against Spanish side Valencia in the Round of 16. Atalanta won the first leg 4-1 before closing it out on the road in leg 2 with another high-scoring performance 4-3.

Now, they face their strongest competition since the group stage, where they played two games against Manchester City (1D, 1L).

PSG Analysis

Paris Saint-Germain rumble into this quarterfinal matchup carrying some strong momentum.

PSG is fresh off of winning the Coupe de la Ligue (French National Cup) and well as winning the League 1 championship once again.

Paris made it to this point after winning one of the best matchups of the Round of 16 against Borussia Dortmund. PSG lost the first match on the road 2-1 but was able to secure a vital away goal that helped them advance after a 2-0 victory at home.

Away goals won’t matter in this one as PSG gets the online sportsbooks nod to advance Wednesday.

While both sides have been playing well, the ceiling for PSG is simply much higher than Atalanta.

A key factor in this will be the presence or absence of Kylian Mbappe for PSG. Mbappe is listed as questionable currently in the pre-match reports.

With Atalanta’s best weapon not on the field today, look for PSG to get the win and advance to the final four.
