  • SC Freiburg and Hertha Berlin are evenly matched in the Bundesliga odds.
  • Joshua Greer has -280 odds to beat Mike Plania in the main event of today’s Top Rank card.

LAS VEGAS - Today’s edition of the Daily Sports Betting Preview brings multiple soccer betting opportunities together with some boxing bouts to create a fully formed betting day.

First, the Preview checks out some La Liga action, as Getafe faces off against Espanyol in the Spanish top tier.

Then, in the Bundesliga, Freiburg takes on Hertha Berlin in what is expected to be a very close match.

Finally, in the world of boxing odds, there are a couple of interesting bouts to examine as far as the betting lines go.

There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started!

La Liga Betting

Espanyol takes on Getafe in La Liga as the league swings back into form following a prolonged shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

La Liga is back up and running as of June 11, and today’s matches are excellent - but this one is a unique gambling opportunity.

Getafe are favored at nearly even odds, with -101 on many of the major online sportsbooks, while Espanyol are +330 underdogs.

A draw in the match has +210 odds, which makes it relatively likely compared to an Espanyol victory.

Interestingly, however, the spread on the match is only half a goal. Right now, Getafe -0.5 has -101 odds and Espanyol +0.5 has -119 odds.

This means that a bet on Espanyol +0.5 is similar in effect to taking both Espanyol and a draw on the moneyline.

This also means that a bet on Getafe -0.5 is basically the same as taking Getafe on the moneyline - it only pays out if they win.

The Over/Under line for the match is set at two goals total, which is a very low amount as far as soccer games tend to go.

This low total reflects not just that both teams are expected to keep the score low, but that the match could change in an instant.

The odds in this match are based on an assumption of a low scoring match where Espanyol might even be unlikely to score a goal.

This means that one Espanyol goal could throw the odds out the window - and it’s certainly something to keep an eye on for fans of live soccer betting.

Bundesliga Betting

The Bundesliga, the first of the major European leagues to return in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, is also running today.

There is an excellent close matchup set for 2:30 p.m. today between SC Freiburg and Hertha Berlin.

The moneyline shows the match as a dead heat, as both of the teams involved have +165 odds, while a draw has +250 odds.

On the spread, the match is actually a pick - both teams have -110 odds.

One interesting angle on this match is to examine the odds for Freiburg’s total goals scored.

Right now, Freiburg’s Over/Under line is set at 1.5 goals scored in the match, and there is some significant shading towards the Under.

The Over has +120 odds, while the Under has -140 odds, which is about as much shading as there ever tends to be on an Over/Under line in soccer.

In addition, at some online sportsbooks, betting on the Under actually has lower betting limits than normal, reflecting that the Under for Freiburg’s total goals seems to be getting hammered right now.

Overall, this looks to be a great, competitive game, and the betting odds on it could swing wildly as the game progresses - making live betting a compelling way to gamble on this match.

Boxing Betting

Boxing is yet another sport returning to the world amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most of the cards being promoted are Top Rank Boxing cards, and today’s is no exception.

Today’s card is headlined by Joshua Greer Jr. and Mike Plania, in a 120 lb catchweight fight that is sure to excite.

Greer’s record is 22-1-1, while Plania clocks in with a 23-1 record, but has generally fought against lesser competition than Greer.

One thing to take note of is that both of these fighters are young - Plania is 23, Greer is 26 - and have a lot of potential.

Greer is a notable favorite in this bout and enters with -280 odds, which reflect his favored status.

For his part, Plania enters with +220 odds to pull off the upset - not impossibly low, but not particularly likely.

One thing that could be an X factor in the fight is that both men are dealing with a world, and a fighting environment, that is very different from before.

The fight itself will be held in an empty arena, both fighters will be tested for COVID-19, and there is some question as to whether or not that will impact them mentally.

Greer, talking to the Chicago Sun-Times, noted that he did not expect to struggle with the empty arena:

‘‘I’m sparring in the gym every day” said Greer, “so it’s really just like a sparring match or something.’’

That remains to be seen, but for many sports bettors, just having boxing back to bet on is a win in itself.
