LAS VEGAS - Welcome to the Daily Sports Betting Preview for this Thursday edition.

Today’s Preview starts out with an examination of the odds for the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational, on the PGA Tour.

Then, the Preview takes a look at the return of the NBA, which brings a championship matchup on its first day back.

Finally, the Preview examines the Premier Lacrosse League, as bettors look to find betting opportunities across the sportsbooks.

There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started!

PGA Betting Odds

The WGC Fedex St. Jude Invitational kicks off today at 12:00 p.m. EST, and looks to be an interesting competition.

The Invitational features a stacked field, with many of the best golfers in the world taking up their clubs today.

The top of the odds boards look a lot like a list of the best golfers in the world, as they probably should.

WGC Fedex St. Jude Invitational

  • Rory McIlroy +1000
  • Jon Rahm +1100
  • Bryson DeChambeau +1200
  • Justin Thomas +1200
  • Xander Schauffele +1600
  • Patrick Cantlay +2000
  • Webb Simpson +2000
  • Brooks Koepka +2500
  • Collin Morikawa +2500
  • Daniel Berger +2500
  • Tyrrell Hatton +2500
  • Viktor Hovland +2500
  • Dustin Johnson +2800
  • Hideki Matsuyama +2800
  • Patrick Reed +2800
  • Tommy Fleetwood +3000
  • Matthew Fitzpatrick +3300
  • Tony Finau +3300

The top end of the tournament is as good as it gets - Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm are the best golfers in the world right now according to the PGA rankings.

The two of them are the only golfers with an average points above 8, making them a tier above the rest of the competition.

In fact, the two of them and Justin Thomas are the only golfers in the world with an average points above seven, let alone eight. Basically, the favorites are no surprise. There are some interesting people on the board below them, however.

Brooks Koepka won this event last year, but he’s been on a bit of a skid recently - he didn’t even make the cut at the 3M last week.

Viktor Hovland is the 31st ranked golfer in the world, yet edges out people like Dustin Johnson, who is fifth.

There’s a lot for bettors to take a look at when it comes to this tournament, and golf bettors will have their eyes on these odds.

NBA Betting

The NBA is back, and a potential Western Conference Finals matchup is on display tonight as the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Los Angeles Clippers.

These two teams were tipped before the season to be title favorites, and that has not changed - they are both in the top three in terms of odds to win the title.

In fact, the two of them and the Milwaukee Bucks are clearly in a tier of their own as far as the NBA odds go.

For two teams who are generally regarded as roughly equivalent, the odds are something of a surprise.

Lakers vs. Clippers Betting

  • Los Angeles Lakers -200
  • Los Angeles Clippers +170

So, what’s going on here?

Well, the Clippers will be without Lou Williams, whose well-publicized trip to Magic City in Atlanta (he says it was to get chicken wings) raised eyebrows amongst those who doubt the integrity of the NBA’s so-called bubble.

In addition, Montrezl Harrell won’t be playing, and Patrick Beverley might be out as well.

Those are important losses, but the two stars of the Clippers, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George will be on the court.

The spread is similarly imbalanced.

Lakers vs. Clippers Spread

  • Los Angeles Lakers -4.5
  • Los Angeles Clippers +4.5

A 4.5 point spread is serious - the Clippers were favored by that much over the New Orleans Pelicans two days ago.

In other words, the Lakers are favored against the Clippers by the same amount the Clippers were favored against the Pelicans.

That doesn’t seem correct on its face, but the sportsbooks, and the odds, work in mysterious ways. There’s a lot to take into account about this game, but on its face, the spread on the Clippers seems remarkably generous.

Premier Lacrosse League Betting

The Premier Lacrosse League is back in the Daily Sports Betting Preview, with two games for aspiring lacrosse bettors to wager on.

The first game is between Whipsnakes LC and Atlas LC and airs at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Whipsnakes vs. Atlas

  • Whipsnakes LC -150
  • Atlas LC +120

Whipsnakes are mild favorites on the moneyline, with -150 odds to win the match outright, while Atlas clock in with +120 odds as the underdog.

The spread, similar to a puck line in hockey, is set at +/-1.5, and does a fairly decent job of evening the odds.

Whipsnakes vs. Atlas

  • Whipsnakes LC -1.5 +110
  • Atlas LC +1.5 -140

On the spread, Atlas +1.5 is a -140 favorite, while Whipsnakes -1.5 takes up the underdog’s position at +110.

The second match is between Chrome LC and Archers LC, and starts at 9:30 p.m. EST.

Chrome vs. Archers

  • Chrome LC +115
  • Archers LC -145

Archers are a pretty significant favorite in this matchup on the moneyline, with -145 odds to win straight up, while Chrome has +115 odds as the underdog.

Chrome vs. Archers

  • Chrome LC +1.5 -135
  • Archers LC -1.5 +105

Once again, the makeshift puck line swings the odds here, with Chrome +1.5 becoming the favorite with -135 odds, while Archers -1.5 has +105.

One important thing to remember with this line is that in sudden death overtime, the first goal wins.
