LSU Team Odds: Improvement Expected But Longshot In SEC

  • The LSU Tigers win total is set at 8.5 games with the OVER at -130 odds.
  • LSU is a +1800 betting longshot to win the SEC, making them the fifth option.

BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU Tigers are attempting to get back to the elite level that brought home a National Championship in 2019. Replacing Joe Burrow is a hard task, but sportsbooks seem to think the 2021 season will be a good step forward for the team.

LSU Tigers Season Projections

The LSU Tigers had a disappointing 2020 season in which they compiled just a 5-5 record. A very unimpressive result coming off of the 2019 National Championship. Online sportsbooks project improvement from only a season ago, but not quite to the level of success from the previous year.

LSU Tigers 2021-2022 Total Wins

  • OVER 8.5 -130
  • UNDER 8.5 EVEN

The Tigers play UCLA, McNeese State, Central Michigan, and UL Monroe for their out-of-conference games, which should make for a 3-1 record at the absolute worst. For in conference games, LSU is set to face the usual suspects but avoids the Georgia Bulldogs this year. LSU should be able to go 9-3 at the bare minimum, even if they are no longer the team they used to be with Burrow at the helm.

The last time that an LSU team has gone back-to-back seasons with UNDER 9.0 wins was in 1999-2000.

Will LSU Compete For A Conference Championship?

Even with college football betting sites predicting a solid year, the Tigers are still on the outside looking in when it comes to competing for the SEC Championship.

SEC Conference Winner 2021-2022

  • Alabama -170
  • Georgia +200
  • Texas A&M +900
  • Florida +1700
  • LSU +1800

If LSU were to be in a different conference, a nine or 10 win season may put them at the forefront of the championship game, but in the SEC that is not the case. For a point of reference, despite having the fifth-shortest odds in the SEC alone, LSU is the eighth choice for National Championship odds at +3500.

LSU was labeled as the No. 13 team in the country in the coaches' poll and can be expected to be in a similar spot when the AP Poll is released on Monday.
