TOKYO – Surfer Carissa Moore will be representing Team USA for surfing and is the favorite to take home the gold at Tokyo 2020. The professional surfer from Hawaii is 28 years old, with 23 years of surfing experience under her belt.

She began riding the waves when she was only five years old being introduced to the sport by her dad and fell in love with it but never dreamed that it would become something that would be seen in the Olympics.

"I give the credit to my dad," said Moore. "I think it was his belief in me, he saw the potential in me that made me believe in myself. It definitely took a bit of guidance and encouragement from him, and a little bit of push at times. I definitely knew I loved surfing and I loved the way it made me feel, but yeah, I think it was around 10, 11 years old when I had that serious conversation."

That conversation helped as she’s now at the first Olympics to hold surfing as an official event.

Online sportsbooks as well as regulated retail sportsbooks have Moore taking home a gold medal for the United States in surfing’s debut year as a recognized Olympic sport. Moore has been given odds of (+275) to win the gold medal.

Who Is Carissa Moore?

Moore’s surfing career began in 2007, when she was 15 years old. In 2008, she won the Triple Crown of Surfing, becoming the youngest winner to do so at the age of 16. From there, Carissa Moore has been surfing the radar waves of the sport she loves so much becoming a rising star with each competition.

The World Surf League (WSL) athlete became the World Champion in 2019 for the fourth time which was the event that would solidify her spot on Team USA for the 2020 Olympics.

She holds over 11 national titles in her 14-year career. She was the World Champion in 2011, 2013, 2015, and then in 2019. She hit some cold waters after 2015 through 2018 but came back swinging in 2018 placing third in the world for surfing.
