  • The PGA Tour heads to The Players Championship this weekend where Dustin Johnson leads all golfers as the +1100 betting odds favorite.
  • Last week’s winner Bryson DeChambeau is next at +1600, joined by Jon Rahm (+1600), Justin Thomas (+1600), and Rory McIlroy (+1600).

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The biggest non-major tournament in golf gets ready to tee it up this weekend as the best players in the world head to TPC Sawgrass for The Players Championship.

After last year’s tournament was canceled following the first round due to the pandemic, the PGA Tour’s best are eager to return to the iconic Stadium Course to celebrate a slow return to normalcy.

There will be fans in attendance this weekend, much like last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational. Anyone who caught that tournament this past weekend was pleasantly surprised to hear the long-lost cheers and exclamations from a crowd that has been absent for nearly a year of golf.

Now, bettors turn their attention to one of the most difficult and exciting tournaments on the yearly schedule.

All of the best players on Tour will be in the field this week, with full betting odds available via the major online sportsbooks.

Those looking to bet on the event will see many familiar faces atop the odds board.

Dustin Johnson makes his return after missing the past weeks, and earns the top spot on the board due to his tremendous play over the past season.

The 2020 FedEx Cup champion and world No. 1 has been feeling good about his chances this week in Florida.

“The golf course plays a little better,” said Johnson after his practice round on Tuesday. “Obviously the rough’s a little thicker, it plays longer, but the greens are a little more receptive, you can actually hit some shots. So I think the course plays better overseeded and playing this time of year and I definitely like it better. I definitely feel like I play it a little better, too.”

Just behind Johnson on the board is Bryson DeChambeau, the current biggest sensation in golf and last week’s winner at the API.

DeChambeau was quite literally overwhelming in his win at Bay Hill, bombing the course to dust with his long drives off the tee.

So overwhelming in fact, that the PGA Tour and TPC Sawgrass officials have changed the rules for this week’s Players Championship.

DeChambeau had hinted at the possibility of taking an alternate route on the course’s famously difficult 18th hole.

The Par-4 18th green sits far from the tee box with a long, treacherous lake that lines the entire left of the fairway. Bryson had plans to circumvent the hole by going across the lake, into the fairway of the 9th hole, which sits adjacent to the 18th. The course officials decided to rule this play out of bounds in what is now being called the “Bryson Rule”.

The way DeChambeau plays is literally changing the rules of golf. Anyone looking to bet on the PGA Tour this weekend needs to keep both eyes on Bryson whenever he steps in the tee box.

Those looking to find some diamonds in the rough this week can get great odds on nearly any player outside of the top 20.

Some of the best value odds at first glance are names like Sungjae Im (+4000), Corey Conners (+6600), and Max Homa (+10000).

Homa and Conners have shown an elevation to their game so far in 2021, while Sungjae Im currently has tremendous value due to a rocky start so far this season. Still, the young Korean is one of the best ball strikers in the game and showed that in his second-place finish at the 2020 Masters.

No matter which golfer tops the leader board on Sunday, this weekend is shaping up to be another legendary chapter in the history of The Players Championship.
