Online Sports Betting In Pennsylvania Launches With PlaySugarHouse

  • The SugarHouse online sportsbook will undergo a limited testing period before it can be launched for 24/7 use.
  • The PlaySugarHouse app is not currently available on iPhone but can be accessed through a mobile web browser.
  • Several other sportsbooks are looking to join the online PA sports betting market including Parx Casino and Rivers Casino.

PHILADELPHIA – After months of speculation and weeks of anticipation, online sports betting in Pennsylvania is finally here. On Tuesday, SugarHouse Casino began the soft launch of its online sports wagering site and mobile app PlaySugarHouse.

The new platform will be accepting bets during limited hours this week. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) will monitor the site’s performance during their operational hours, and if all goes well, the Board will approve the SugarHouse app to accept bets at any time.

Users of the new betting platform will have to be within the borders of Pennsylvania and will need to provide proof of identification before they begin to bet.

Any real money wagers made during this testing period will be honored by SugarHouse no matter the outcome of the PGCB’s decision.

What To Expect From The Current PlaySugarHouse App

Perhaps the biggest aspect that sticks out to sports bettors that want to use the app now is that it is not currently available to iPhone users. The app itself is only available for Android devices.

But, PlaySugarhouse can be accessed on any desktop computer and can be accessed through any mobile web browser so iPhone users still have access to mobile sports betting in PA.

When trying to sign up there are a couple of different options you can take. If you already have an account with the New Jersey version of PlaySugarHouse you can transfer your information to the Pennsylvania version. You could also make a new Pennsylvania specific account.

Either way, you will need to make deposits separately for the version in which you are using. The current deposit options are limited to Visa, MasterCard, Discover, SugarHouse Prepaid Card, or Cash at SugarHouse Casino Cage.

The sports you can bet on are a little less restricted than the New Jersey version. You can bet on any professional sports team as well as any collegiate team. This includes college athletic programs or events that are based or occur in the state of PA.

Future of the Online Pennsylvania Sports Betting Market

When it comes to the PlaySugarHouse app one feature that many expect to come to it is live betting. This is already offered for the platform in New Jersey and will allow the app to expand it’s betting options substantially.

Other deposit methods are also expected. New Jersey sports betting apps not only accept credit and prepaid cards, but they also accept payments from methods such as Skrill, Netteller, PayNearMe, and PayPal. Online sports betting in PA is still in its initial stage but these options may soon be available.

Other online sportsbooks in the USA are also looking to join the market soon. Kambi also powers the sportsbooks at Rivers Casino and Parx Casino who have both applied to offer mobile sports wagering in PA. FanDuel sportsbook, who recently opened their retail sportsbook at Valley Forge, is looking to get into the online space as well.

The PGCB will have to approve their online operations one at a time, but the future outlook of the industry seems to be bright.
