Woman’s French Open Betting Odds Now Without Naomi Osaka

  • Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the 2021 French Open due to personal reasons, causing major shifts in the betting odds for the Grand Slam.
  • Osaka was previously listed with +1200 odds to win, causing bookies to shorten the odds for names like Iga Swiatek (+175), Aryna Sabalenka (+400), and Ashleigh Barty (+600).

PARIS, France – The 2021 French Open is underway, but one of the biggest names in tennis will not be taking the red clay at Rolland Garros.

Reigning US Open and Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka announced Monday that she would be withdrawing from the French Open due to personal issues stemming from her recent difficulties with the media.

This news has caused a major shake-up in the betting odds for the tournament, where Osaka was a serious contender for her fifth Grand Slam win.

Now, there is a bigger gap between the elite group at the top of the board and the mid-tier. Full odds for the tournament are available throughout the French Open via the major online sportsbooks.

2021 Women’s French Open Betting Odds To Win

  • Iga Swiatek +175
  • Aryna Sabalenka +400
  • Ashleigh Barty +600
  • Paula Badosa +1200
  • Serena Williams +2000
  • Veronika Kudermetova +2200
  • Elina Svitolina +2500
  • Cori Gauff +2800
  • Karolina Muchova +3300
  • Maria Sakkari +3300
  • Elise Mertens +3300
  • Karolina Pliskova +4000
  • Sofia Kenin +5000
  • Marketa Vondrousova +5000
  • Sloane Stephens +6600
  • Jessica Pegula +6600
  • Victoria Azarenka +6600

At the time of her withdrawal, Osaka was listed at +1200 odds to win the French Open.

With her out of the field, Iga Swiatek saw her odds move from +230 to +175. Additionally, Aryna Sabalenka saw her odds shorten from +600 to +400.

While some of this could be attributed to the draw of the tournament and playing form during the qualifiers, the absence of Osaka surely has a major impact.

While no one expected Osaka to drop out of the tournament, some could see there were dark clouds on the horizon with her recent reluctance to engage in media obligations.

Leading up to her withdrawal, Osaka was already fined for missing required media appearances. Osaka said that she felt that she shouldn’t have to deal with the added stress of answering media questions on top of preparing for a Grand Slam event.

Osaka posted a lengthy post to her Instagram in which she expressed her full feelings on the move to leave Paris and “take some time away from the court”.

The duration of her hiatus is unknown, but those who love to bet on tennis will hope that one of the game’s biggest stars can be back on the court sooner rather than later.

Bettors will hope that Osaka will be in the field for Wimbledon later this Summer.
