BOSTON - Starting this holiday weekend, two of the top daily fantasy sports operators, DraftKings and FanDuel, are giving bettors a new opportunity to place wagers on upcoming events.

For the first time ever at local sportsbooks, bettors can gamble on Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. DraftKings partnered with Major League Eating to offer wagering and a $25,000 free to play contest in those states without state-licensed sports betting.

New Jersey, Colorado, and New Hampshire have approved the betting for this event.

Online sportsbooks have posted the betting odds for winners and prop bets for the contest that fans can place wagers on.

Joey Chestnut, the 12-time champion, is the favorite with -1600 odds – much higher than the -900 odds Chestnut opened with.

Also gaining more of favorite status on the women’s side of the contest, Miki Sudo (-850) is the favorite to win.

There are also entertainment prop bets on how many hot dogs will be eaten or even it PETA will interrupt the event.

The July 4th contest will not be happening at Nathan’s in Coney Island but will be at an undisclosed location with social distancing practices put in place.

There will not be the typical 15-20 men and women competing this year, but instead, there will be five women and six men participating in the competition.

FanDuel And The Basketball Tournament Betting

On the other side of things, FanDuel is now the official daily fantasy partner of The Basketball Tournament.

New Jersey, Indiana, Colorado, and West Virginia are the states with legal sports betting that will have access to the odds through FanDuel.

With the added element of the daily fantasy sportsbook odds, FanDuel has the ability to bring in a bigger audience to watch the tournament and give promotional support for TBT.

The tournament will be held from July 4-14 and all games will be broadcasted on ESPN networks.

This year's event will also work a little differently due to the social distancing restrictions.

Instead of the 64 teams at different locations, the contests will feature only 24 teams and all games will be played at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

It will also be formatted in a single-game elimination style.

NBA bettors who are waiting for the restart of the 2020 season can be excited about this event because this is the first televised basketball competition in the US after the pandemic shutdown.
