Sportsbooks Offering Refunds On Joey Chestnut Over Bets

  • Online sportsbooks are all offering refunds on bets on the over for Joey Chestnut’s hot dogs eaten prop of 74.5 hot dogs.
  • Chestnut was briefly interrupted by a protestor, who he was forced to throw to the side during the event. He would still take down a total of 63 hot dogs.
  • Miki Sudo was the outright favorite with -4000 odds for the Nathan’s Famous Women’s Hot Dog Eating Contest and proved those odds to be true with a dominant performance.
  • Eric Booker won his second consecutive and second-ever Chug Contest in world record time, finishing the gallon of Nathan’s lemonade in under 30 seconds.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Fireworks started early on July 4 this year. Joey “Jaws” Chestnut had to battle off not just 63 hot dogs, but also one protestor during the annual Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.

As a result of the interruption, online sportsbooks are refunding bets on the over for hot dogs eaten by Joey Chestnut (74.5).

The protestor got through security, managed to squeeze his way next to Chestnut, only to be taken down by the eventual champion quicker than any of his 63 hot dogs eaten.

Sportsbooks Offering Refund On Chestnut Bets Due To Protest

Sportsbooks run by such as Barstool Sports, DraftKings, and FanDuel have all issued statements that they will be issuing refunds for any bets on the over. That may come as a surprise to many, as the protest took no more than 10 seconds of Chestnut’s time and he still came up 12 hot dogs short.

That is all said not to disparage Joey Chestnut’s greatness at his craft, but to prove that many online sportsbooks were simply being extra generous to their bettors.

Chestnut imposed his dominance in the event, besting second place by 15.5 hot dogs.

Betting on Jaws was considered a relatively safe bet heading into the event, as he was a -2500 favorite to win the event.

Other Major League Eating Results

The men’s event of the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest was not the only Major League Eating event of the day. Heavy favorite Miki Sudo (-4000) won the women’s competition, while Eric “Badlands” Booker took home his second consecutive Chug Contest.

Miki Sudo was the largest favorite of all and for good reason. She has now won eight of the last nine hot dog eating championships, with only Michelle Lesco winning in 2021 when Sudo did not participate due because she was pregnant.

Sudo ate 40 hot dogs but failed to go over her total hot dogs eaten prop bet of 50.5.

Badlands Booker has now taken home the championship in the Chug Contest’s first two iterations. Odds were hard to come by for the event, but as the sport of chugging continues to grow it is safe to say that Booker will be the prohibitive favorite.
