William Hill, Other Vegas Casinos Opening Drive-Thrus

  • Las Vegas sportsbooks are holding drive through registrations for their mobile sports betting apps.
  • Nevada does not offer remote registrations for online betting.
  • New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Indiana all offer remote registrations and have seen a majority of their bets come from online platforms.

LAS VEGASLas Vegas sportsbooks are opening drive through registrations for their online mobile sports betting apps. The coronavirus has forced this process as it has closed casinos and sportsbooks all throughout Las Vegas and the rest of the world.

Drive Through Registration

Several retail sportsbooks in Las Vegas are offering drive-through registrations for their online sportsbooks. Some of the sportsbooks that are offering these services are William Hill, South Point Sportsbook and Circa Sports.

The curbside services for South Point will operate from 11:00 am to 6:00 p.m. daily and will also not deal with cash payouts. Payouts will all be done through their mobile apps.

The initial deposit can be done at the drive-through registration but after that, deposits are made on the app as well. All operations will be done with bettors not having to leave their cars at all as a way to follow social distancing guidelines to prevent the coronavirus.

For William Hill, the drive-thru registration will be available on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The company is also offering a promotion for UFC 249 to entice bettors to join in the coming days.

These curbside services are a huge step in the right direction for Las Vegas sportsbooks as they have lost endless amounts of revenue due to the casino and sportsbook shutdowns. Though it won’t bring in nearly as much revenue as it would if they were open, it will give them a chance to recoup some of their losses.

Remote Registrations

Nevada sports betting does not currently allow remote registrations for their online sportsbook apps. Bettors must register in person at the retail sportsbooks in order to bet from the app, hence the need for drive through registrations.

Nevada lawmakers could come out of this pandemic with a different perspective about remote registrations. Pennsylvania, Indiana, and New Jersey all allow for bettors to register for their mobile services remotely from the application itself.

The cause for allowing remote registrations is to steer those bettors away from offshore sites and gear them towards their state-regulated sites.

The remote registrations are attractive for bettors in those states since they won’t have to go to the physical location to sign up and it also gives them the same experience that they would have if they were using an offshore site.

New Jersey, Nevada’s biggest rival in terms of sports betting handle, consistently reports that about 80% of all bets come through mobile devices. Pennsylvania and Indiana also saw a month-over-month rise in terms of the amount of people signing up and using their online sportsbooks before the COVID-19 shutdowns.
